I haven’t explored many AI language learning apps myself because I’ve only been using French Together‘s AI Speaking Partner to work on my conversation skills. I stumbled upon Jumpspeak a month ago, and I just had to share my thoughts! With so many options out there, it’s refreshing to find one that really stands out, and I think JumSpeak does just that with its unique and engaging approach to learning languages.
My experience wasn’t without its ups and downs, though. There were definitely features that I loved, but there are also a few areas that could use some improvement. In this review, I want to share my personal take on what I appreciated most about JumSpeak, what I think could be better, and whether I feel it’s worth adding to your language learning toolkit.
I’m excited to walk you through what makes JumSpeak a great option for reaching your language goals. I hope my insights help you on your own language learning journey!
What is Jumpspeak?
Jumpspeak is an AI-powered language learning app that helps you speak a new language confidently from day one. Unlike traditional methods that focus on passive learning through videos or audio, Jumpspeak uses an active immersion approach.
Through real-life, interactive conversations, Jumpspeak lets you practice speaking in everyday scenarios—whether you’re ordering food, chatting casually, or handling business meetings. The app’s AI Tutoring feature acts as your personal language partner, offering dynamic, role-playing dialogues with instant, personalized feedback.

Lessons
The lessons are tailored to the level you’ve selected and follow the CEFR framework. Each lesson is divided into four sections: Listen, Write, Speak, and Conversation.
- Listen: This activity is all about listening carefully to an audio clip and then selecting the correct answer from a few multiple-choice options. It’s a listening test where you need to pick out the right response based on what you hear.
- Write: You’ll be following along with a simulated conversation. You’ll either type your responses or sometimes pick an answer from multiple choices. It’s like you’re having a chat, but you get to control what you say by typing, which helps you practice forming sentences in the language.
- Speak: In this activity, you’ll listen to an audio clip with a word or phrase, and then you’ll repeat it out loud. The app will give you a series of words or phrases to practice, and you need to repeat each one as accurately as possible. If your pronunciation is on point and you pass, you’ll move on to the next word or phrase. It’s like a mini pronunciation challenge that helps you get better at speaking the language, one word at a time.
- Conversation: This one is like the Write activity, but instead of typing your responses, you’ll speak them. You’ll record yourself continuing the conversation. You have two modes to choose from: “normal” mode, which is a bit easier, and “immerse” mode, which ramps up the difficulty and gives you a more challenging conversation experience. It’s a fun way to simulate real-life conversations while practicing your speaking.
AI Tutor
AI Tutor is one of Jumpspeak’s main features designed to help you practice speaking and understanding different languages in everyday situations. It’s like having a personal language coach right on your phone, guiding you through conversations in a variety of real-life scenarios. You can practice talking about topics like relationships, work, food and drinks, travel, family, health, and more.
The AI Tutor works similarly to the Conversation activity in Lessons, but instead of focusing on your language level, it tailors conversations to the topics you choose. So, while the Conversation Activity adjusts to your proficiency, the AI tutor lets you practice specific subjects, based on your interests.
Here’s how it works: Once you pick a topic, you also choose the gender of your AI Tutor. After that, you’ll start a conversation with the AI Tutor based on the topic you selected. For example, if you chose “travel,” your conversation might revolve around things like booking a hotel, asking for directions, or ordering food at a restaurant.
You can switch between different topics easily, so you’re not stuck on one topic. But what makes it even better is that you can personalize your conversations. If there’s something you want to talk about that’s not on the list of topics, you can just create your own. All you have to do is describe the scenario you want to practice, like maybe you’re in a foreign country trying to order food or you’re at work practicing a meeting. Then, you decide what roles you and the AI Tutor are going to play. Are you a student? The traveler? And the AI Tutor can be whatever you need it to be—your guide, your teacher, your conversation partner. You also get to choose what part of the language you want to focus on, like verb conjugations, adjectives, or just practicing everyday conversation. It’s a super flexible way to practice, and you can tailor it to exactly what you want to work on.
You can choose to respond either by typing your answer or recording your voice if you want to focus on improving your speaking skills.
If you’re not sure about something, like a word or a phrase, the app lets you ask the AI Tutor for clarification, request an example, or even ask for an alternative way to express yourself.
One of the best parts is that the app gives you suggested responses to help guide the conversation, but you’re not locked into those suggestions. You can answer however you want, making the practice more natural and relevant to your style. If you’re not sure about your response, you can always ask for another suggestion. Plus, the AI tutor will give you feedback on your responses to help you improve.
If you don’t understand something, you can just turn on the translation feature, and if you’re feeling confident, you can turn it off to challenge yourself more.
You can customize a variety of settings to enhance your experience with the AI tutor. These include options like auto-translation, which automatically translates text or speech into your preferred language, and automatic microphone activation, so the app detects when it’s time to listen to you. You can also adjust feedback preferences, allowing the system to provide guidance or corrections as needed. For more streamlined interactions, there’s the option for automatic hint suggestions, where the AI offers helpful prompts or recommendations as you speak or type. Additionally, you can fine-tune speech speed to match your listening comfort and enable enhanced speech recognition for greater accuracy in understanding your input. You can also set whether you want to hear audio only during your conversation with the AI tutor.
Account Settings and Profile Page
Within the app, you’ll also have access to the terms and privacy policy, so you can easily check any important details about how everything works. If you run into any issues or have questions, you can report a bug directly from within the app. They also have a helpful collection of self-service articles that might provide solutions to common problems. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find a way to contact a live person, though they do have a chatbot for assistance. However, if you need further support, you can always email them at support@jumpspeak.com to address any questions or concerns you might have. The app also offers a couple of handy options for account management. You can choose to delete your account permanently, or if you need to, you can also restore a previous purchase with just a few taps.
On your profile page, you’ll get a nice summary of your progress, including your streaks, which show how many lessons you’ve completed in a row. However, if you miss a day and don’t complete any lessons, your streak will reset to zero. You’ll also be able to see how many conversations you’ve completed and how many words you’ve spoken, and there are some settings to help you personalize your account to make the experience more tailored to you.
Additional Features
In addition to the main AI features, Jumpspeak offers other resources like Live Tutoring, courses, masterclass, and books.
The Live Tutoring is perfect if you’re looking for daily one-on-one lessons with a professional tutor. If you’re after something more personalized, you can opt for this service with a separate subscription, which we’ll go over in the pricing section later in the article. To access the live tutoring service after processing your subscription, you’ll need to create a separate account with Rype, which is Jumpspeak’s sister company.

Why I Think Jumpspeak is Awesome:
- You can skip ahead to higher levels without having to complete everything in the current one. So if you feel like you’re ready to tackle more advanced stuff or just want to explore a different topic, you don’t have to stick to the same level. I think it’s a great way to stay motivated and not get stuck in one place if you’re ready for a challenge.
- Another thing I really like is that if you’re working on a conversation activity and accidentally close the app, it doesn’t mess everything up. Jumpspeak saves your progress automatically, so when you open it again, you can just pick up right where you left off. That’s such a huge plus because it’s frustrating when you lose all your progress!
- Jumpspeak is accessible on Android and iOS. Whether you’re using a tablet or a smartphone, you can effortlessly continue your language practice wherever you are. The platform is designed to work seamlessly across different devices, allowing you to learn on your preferred screen, whether at home or on the go.
- There’s no limit to how many languages you can learn. Unlike other apps that only let you learn one language per account or subscription, Jumpspeak lets you switch between any languages you want without any extra cost. You could be learning Spanish one day and then jump into French the next, all in the same account. I think that’s perfect if you want to explore more than one language at a time.
- The real-time feedback is also really helpful. As you go through the lessons, it’ll tell you immediately if you got the answer right or if there are any grammatical mistakes. And, if you slip up and start speaking English instead of the language you’re learning, it’ll remind you to switch back. It’s a nice nudge to keep you immersed.
- The built-in translation feature is a lifesaver when you can’t remember a word or phrase. It’s not always easy to know how to say something, but with the translation tool, you can figure it out quickly without interrupting your flow.
- The app itself is super easy to use. I mean, I’m not a tech expert or anything, but it’s so intuitive that I feel like anyone, no matter their age, could easily navigate it. Everything’s laid out in a simple way, so you don’t have to waste time figuring out how it works.
- And here’s something that really motivates me: Just like French Together‘s Pronunciation Practice, the app scores your pronunciation (100 as the highest). Not only do you get instant feedback on whether you’re correct, but you also get a score, which helps you see how well you’re doing. It’s like getting a little extra push to keep improving.
The Not-So-Good Stuff:
- I was testing out the Speak activity under Lesson, where you have to repeat what the audio says, and I found that it’s not always super accurate. I actually tried a little experiment where I mispronounced words on purpose or said something that sounded similar, and I still passed most of the time. There was only one instance where it caught that I said something wrong, but other than that, it didn’t seem to notice the mistakes. It’s definitely something they could work on to make sure it gives better feedback.
- Another issue I ran into was with translations. When I switched on the translation feature, it didn’t show up as expected. It should automatically display the translation for words or phrases I was trying to learn, but nothing appeared, which was a little frustrating. I had to close the app and relaunched it, which fixed the issue.
- When using the AI Tutor, it doesn’t save your previous conversation after you close the app. So if you stop a session and come back later, you have to start from the beginning, which kind of breaks the flow. It would be nice if it remembered where you left off just like how the Conversation activity works in the lessons.
- I really like the idea of being able to personalize the topic and set roles for both yourself and the AI, but one thing I don’t love is how limited the AI’s responses can be. When you choose your own topic, the AI tends to give shorter, more basic answers compared to the ones it provides for the suggested topics. It feels like it could be more engaging and offer more detailed responses, especially if you’re trying to have a more in-depth conversation. The shorter answers can make it harder to really practice the language and feel like you’re getting the most out of the personalized experience. It would be great if the AI could provide more comprehensive answers to make the conversation feel more natural and immersive.
- It would also be awesome if the AI Tutor had the option to play the suggested answer at a slower speed. I noticed that when the AI speaks, it has a slower mode for its own messages, but when it comes to the suggested answers, it’s at regular speed. Slowing that down would make it easier to practice the pronunciation without feeling rushed.
- Another minor thing I noticed is there’s sometimes a delay when I try to play back my recorded answers. Sometimes it doesn’t work right away or takes a while to load. It’s a minor issue, but it can be annoying when you’re trying to quickly check how you’re doing.
- Another thing I think would make the app even better is if they added a dedicated pronunciation practice activity, similar to the one in French Together. Right now, the Speak activity is cool because it lets you repeat words after the AI Tutor, which helps with pronunciation. But the problem is, it doesn’t really give you detailed feedback on how well you’re actually pronouncing the words. They do have a pronunciation score in the AI Chats, but it’s not available in the Speak activities, which is a bit of a bummer. I think if they could improve the Speak activity or if they had a special section just for pronunciation practice, where you could get more specific feedback and a score, it would help a lot—especially if you’re really trying to nail down your accent and speaking skills. It would be a nice way to focus on pronunciation without just repeating the words mindlessly.

Pricing and Refund
Jumpspeak offers a few different subscription options for the AI features: 3-month, annual, and lifetime plans. The pricing can vary depending on where you’re located.
When I first signed up through the mobile app, I noticed the prices were shown in my local currency, but when I checked the website, it listed everything in USD. I even converted the prices from the mobile app to see the difference, and sure enough, they weren’t the same. If you sign up through their website, here’s the pricing breakdown for each subscription plan:
One thing to keep in mind is that Jumpspeak doesn’t offer a free trial for their AI premium subscriptions (except for their Live Tutoring, which offers a 7-day free trial). So, when you choose a plan, you’ll be charged right away. My advice is to try the app’s free version first to see if it’s right for you before committing. With the free version, you can already do quite a bit—you can skip to different levels, switch between languages, and even have limited conversations with the AI Tutor. I think that’s enough to get a good feel for the app.
Also, I noticed something a little confusing. On the website, Jumpspeak offers a 100-day risk-free trial. That means you can try it out for 100 days, and if you’re not satisfied, they’ll give you a full refund. But they mentioned “keep all $1,192,” and I was confused by that figure because the highest subscription I saw on their website was $249, so I’m not sure where that number comes from.
On the mobile app, though, the refund policy is different. They only offer a 30-day money-back guarantee, not the 100-day trial.
If you’re thinking about a refund, there’s one important thing to know: Jumpspeak doesn’t offer refunds for purchases made through the Apple App Store or Google Play. If you made your purchase through one of those platforms, Apple or Google would handle any refund requests. Additionally, they only provide one refund per customer for purchases made on Jumpspeak’s website, and it doesn’t apply to things like Live Tutoring, renewals, courses, or any additional services and products. So, it’s good to be clear on that before you make a purchase.
As I mentioned earlier, if you’re interested in daily 1-on-1 lessons, you can sign up for a separate subscription to Jumpspeak’s Live Tutoring services. They offer a 7-day free trial, and you can cancel anytime before it ends without being charged. After the trial period, the cost will be $349/month.
The Verdict: Is Jumpspeak Worth It?
After using Jumpspeak for a while, I’d say it’s definitely worth checking out, especially if you’re looking for something easy to use and not overwhelming. The design is super simple and straightforward, which is a big deal for me. I really like how user-friendly it is, everything just clicks, and you don’t have to spend ages figuring things out.
That said, there are a few things that could use some improvement. One big issue I ran into was the voice detection—it wasn’t always super accurate, which was a bit frustrating at times. It didn’t always catch what I was saying, and I had to repeat myself a few times. Hopefully, that’s something they’ll improve on over time.
But overall, everything else worked pretty smoothly. The courses, the AI, and the resources, they’re all great, and I definitely feel like I’ve become a bit more familiar with certain words and phrases. Did I become fluent overnight? No. But it’s definitely helped me get more comfortable with the language and improved my vocabulary a bit.
Honestly, I think Jumpspeak is pretty solid for practicing conversations and improving your understanding of grammar. It’s really useful for building your vocabulary and understanding how sentences are structured. But if you’re looking to improve your pronunciation, it’s not the best. As mentioned a few times, the voice recognition feature isn’t always super accurate, so it might not help you nail down the way words are supposed to sound. It’s definitely better for getting comfortable with speaking and grammar rather than perfecting your accent or pronunciation.
If you’re looking for a solid, easy-to-use language learning tool, Jumpspeak is definitely worth it. Just be prepared for a few minor hiccups, but nothing that ruins the experience.
I was initially hesitant about paying Jumpspeak upfront, so if you’re feeling the same way, you might want to check out other apps with similar AI features, like French Together. We offer a 7-day free trial, so you won’t be charged if it turns out it’s not the right fit for you. You can sign up for the free trial here and give it a try!
