Wouldn’t it be awesome if, one year from now, you could speak French fluently?
This may be one of your goals for the next year, it may even have been your goal for several years in a row. Unfortunately, having a goal isn’t enough to make it happen.
One day, the hare made fun of the slow tortoise. Amused, the tortoise replied it would beat the hare in a race. Believing it to be impossible, the hare agreed. The hare started fast and decided to take a nap, while the hare was napping, the tortoise kept moving, slowly but surely. Eventually, the tortoise won the race. Aesop’s Fables
Last year, my goals included learning a programming language, reading one book per week and becoming rich and famous. None of these goals came true.
Why? Because I didn’t make them happen. Sure I bought a programming course and spent a few hours learning how to code, I bought a few books and started reading them. But this is not enough.
One day though, I decided I really wanted to write the ultimate guide to learning French, and I did. I immediately started writing, and two months later, the book was published. Instead of deciding I wanted to write this book, I started writing it. This made a huge difference.
Today I listened to the Smart Passive Income Podcast episode 140, and something Hal Elrod said really resonated with me. That’s the idea that we should act now rather than always postpone our actions.
Instead of deciding you want to become fluent in French next year, why not start now? Why not read a bilingual book in French or look for a French pen pal?
No matter what your level is, you have plenty of ways to improve your French now. You don’t need to wait until you can buy the best French course or until you move to France.
All you need to do is start now, and study regularly. If you do that, you may not be fluent in French in one year, but you will be much closer to fluency than you are now.
So don’t wait, start learning French now rather than tomorrow.
Over to you
