Coup de foudre

Un coup de foudre literally means “a struck of lightning” but this is actually the French expression for “love at first sight.” More rarely, it means “thunderbolt.”

It’s frequently misspelled coupe de foudre or coup de foutre but coup de foudre is the only correct spelling.
